Queries July 17, 2000 Surname: Maldonado, Parra GGrandparents lived in Mexican town of Clifton, AZ and worked as a miner / smelter for many years around the 1900's. Quirino Parra bn. 1867? died 1913? Sylvestra Maldonado Parra bn 1886 died 1950 and is buried in *Fairhaven Cemetery in Santa Ana, CA. They had the following children: *Martin bn. 1900 in Clifton, AZ died 1979 *George bn. 4-23-1902 in Clifton, AZ died 8-31-1946 (WWII Veteran CA PVT 338 MP ESCORT GDCO) Manuela bn. 9/12/1903 in Clifton, AZ still alive at the age of 97 years old Aurora (survivor of twins) bn. 1905? in Clifton, AZ and died at probably the age of nine by drowning. Angelita bn. 7/5/1907 in Clifton, AZ and died in the 90's buried in Perris, CA *Lorenzo bn. 1910? in Clifton, AZ and died in the late 80's. * indicates that the are buried in Fairhaven Memorial and Cemetery of Santa Ana, CA When Quirino died, my great grandmother married a Richard Ramirez and had the following children in (not sure if Clifton) AZ: Richard Jr. Joe Miguel Irene Virginia Vivian Tanis tanisco@worldnet.att.net
April 26th, 2000 Alonzo Steven ("Steve") Richmond was in Clifton, Greenlee County, AZ from around 1938 to 1944 when he went into the US Army. He worked at the Cornado Inn at Clifton, which had been the old railroad station. It is now the Visitors Building. He was my father, and I'm doing a small family history piece on him. April 23rd, 2000 Surname: Drexel, Hayden My great-grandfather was supposed to have been a Sheriff in the USA. Could he have been a Sheriff in Greenlee Co. Arizona? This would have been about 1888 onwards as my grandfather remembered playing with Indian children while his father spoke to the Chief. Sheriff Thomas Drexel married an English schoolteacher named Clarice Hayden. They had a son named Horace Hayden Drexel in 1888 (born in Arizona). Any information would be appreciated. Sun, 23 Apr 2000 Surname: Gonzalez, Martinez: My great-grandparents, Norberto Gonzalez and Margarita Martinez lived in Metcalf 1905-1926. Married 1906 in Metcalf. Seven of eight children born in Metcalf: Teresa, 1908; Beto, 1910; Amelia, 1912; Henrietta (my grandmother), 1914; Octavio, 1916; Hermine, 1918; Lillian, 1920; Margaret (born in Miami), 1922. Norberto Gonzalez possibly part owner of a saloon in Metcalf. Norberto also worked for the Shannon mine company during the Clifton-Morenci strike, 1915-1916 and participated in the negotiations. 4/20/2000 Surname: Rucker I am researching a family who lived in your area a short time. I have handwritten letters that speak of their activities in the Duncan, Richmond [now known as Virden] and Carlisle areas. I see their name on an 1883 Powell-Kingman map - their ranch in the south side of the Gila river, near the ranches of Lightfoot and Chaves. I am reading Jeannie Parks Ringgold's book right now " Frontier Days in the Southwest." Nice reading. On pages 83-84 it mentions the Rucker family who lived "near the store and post office at Richmond, a small settlement ten miles above Duncan." Also, I have copies of letters they wrote from Duncan and Carlisle addressed to other relatives. One letter mentions that Richard Rucker was hauling ore for someone. Would welcome any correspondence about our folks.

4/20/2000 My grandmother, Isabelle Gonzalez Tapia was born in Morenci on 7-8-1912. I know her down line and all her children's names and so on. I am curious though as if her parents are from Morenci or other parts of Greenlee County. All I have are her parents names......mother Conception Lucero Gonzalez and father Augustine Gomez Tapia (he died in 1960 in Phoenix) Conception's mothers name is Arculana Lucero and her father's name was Faustina A. Gonzalez. How would I find out if there are other people with the same surnames living in the area. I know it is a longshot at the best but I figure none of these people are on any type of an official census. My grandmother lived in Graham County most of her life. Her husband Jose de Jesus Flores came from Mexico and she met him in Nogales. If you could point me in any type of direction I would really appreciate it. Anita owlcrmom@aol.com
6/26/1999 Jamie Freitas is looking for help with her ancestor's: RAMOS, SALCIDO Searching for family or decendants of: Rafael RAMOS and Geronima SALCIDO. They immigrated to Arizona from Chihuahua, Old Mexico in 1880. They settled in Morenci, Greenlee County. Any general or specific historical information is also appreciated. Rafael was a copper miner. He died in 1917.
